Spring Moves Cont. - Convoy
===========================
One may ask, especially if one is playing the English empire, how armies can
travel from one land mass to another, across a body of water. This is accom-
plished through the use of the Convoy order. Like a Support order, a convoy
requires two units working in synch; an army on a coastal land territory must
give a convoy order and specify a bordering fleet at sea to convoy via;
likewise, the fleet specified must issue a convoy order specifying both the
unit to be convoyed and the convoy destination (which must be a land mass
bordering the fleet's location).
The fleet and army need not be of the same empire, similar to the supporting
guidelines. However, regardless of ownership, the two orders must be in synch
with each other, on the same turn of course.
To give support to an army being convoyed, issue the support order as an Attack
from the convoying fleet.
Like support, a convoy may be broken by issuing an attack on the convoying
fleet, in which case the army is treated as a lost attack, and the fleet is
treated as holding. A convoying fleet may be given support in holding,
however, this will not prevent the convoy from being disrupted.
Unlike the standard Diplomacy rules, a convoy may only go through one body of
water. Allowing convoys through a chain of convoying fleets may be implemented
in future versions of Empire 1901.
